Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is: Beginning.

Beginning. As I think on this word, words like start, source, origin come to mind. The beginning of something is often the first part.

Looking at all of this, brings a different thought this morning.

God has no end.

No end to His ability or His capability. He creates out of nothing. Provides much from little. There is nothing which He is unable to do.

In an online Bible Study group, we finished a study of the Book of Philippians earlier this morning. Philippians is such a familiar book and yet, we all felt like we learned something new and different and applicable to our lives now.

It brought to mind an old song by Stephen Curtis Chapman, Only Getting Started (*), which I already listened to before seeing the word prompt.

It perfectly expresses all I am feeling. God is only getting started in our lives. This is only the beginning. We are only scratching the surface of all that He is.

No matter how familiar we may become with His Word, we are only at the beginning of plumbing the depths of the truths He desires for us to know.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, NASB)

But there is more. God works in our lives with the beginning of each new day.

The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23, NASB)

Beginning.
Each day is the beginning of God’s mercies.
We are only just beginning to know God.
