Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Fake.
We are living in a time when news reports can interrupt our day at any point. We have become too well familiar with the term “fake news” and can deem any news as fake if it even is contrary to our own opinion.
There are websites to fact check statements which have been made, and analysts will report how many inaccurate statements have been proffered in a public speech.
Yet fake news continues to thrive all around us.
Fake has been defined as : “to prepare something to be deceptive or fraudulent; anything made to appear otherwise” (dictionary.com).
We need to do better than fake, for being fake is disingenuous, it’s putting forth a lie, a deception, being other than our true selves.
Our word should be our word. No wavering. No big lies or little lies. We don’t fake it to make it. Our true selves at all times.
We are to be those who live in truth, and walk out each day with a genuine faith. An authentic faith.
“For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well.” (2 Timothy 1:5, NASB)
“These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.” (1 Peter 1:7, NLT)
Let’s be people who are known for sincere and genuine faith,
nothing fake,
only our true and authentic selves in Jesus.
They call it now disinformation
if with it they do not agree,
and thus seek to make the nation
a place where speech’s no longer free.
They want to tell you wrong is right
(you only need their word as proof),
and it’s proclaimed that day is night
by their Ministry Of Truth.
If we object we are rejected,
cancelled, sent to outer dark;
by media are elites protected,
and by your name will be a mark;
in daring to stand by what’s true,
you will ensure they come for you.
yes indeed. May our truth be shown full well! FMF2
Yes, we need to live in the truth. I think that is one thing that can make us stand out from the world around us.
I pray my faith is always genuine….and not shaped by opinion or outside pressure. Good encouragement today!
Yes, as Christ-followers we should be truthful and real with others. Visiting from FMF#7
A sincere and genuine faith is what I desire thank you for your encouraging words blessings, Leisa
Sincere faith…that’s truly all that matters!
So enjoyed this thought-provoking post Ms. Joanne. I thought to myself of how many times I check myself to see if I’m “faking it” when it comes to my praise and worship of God. I sometimes find myself only half-heartedly seeking God, more out of habit than desire, because I’ve still got “one foot in the world”, holding on to worldly idols (work, career, family, the latest new story that has inflamed my emotions, etc.). God wants us to love and worship Him with our whole heart, our whole being. And when I find myself distracted and unable to do that, I recognize that my attempt is but a facade. Like you, I don’t want to live a fake life, especially before my Lord and Savior. You blessed me mightily this day my friend. God’s blessings right back to you.
There is so much fake that, if not careful, we can see fake as the real thing. Yes. let’s stay in His word so we are able to walk in faithfully in truth.
Yes, let’s! In my personal experience, others are really drawn to authenticity when we drop our perfect facades.
Wise words, Joanne.
Thanks for sharing.
