“Prayer changes things. Praying God’s promises changes everything.”
(Linda Evans Shepherd)

Praying God’s Promises by Linda Evans Shepherd is a wonderful book to keep handy as a reference. Prayer can at times be a challenge – knowing what to pray, what God’s Word promises to us, and His will in all that happens.

In the introduction of this book, the author reminds us: “God’s promises have the power to calm storms, incite miracles, and best of all, deliver you” (page 12).

God has given us His many promises so that through them, and by them, we would come to know Him more deeply. Andrew Murray has said:

“There is something more necessary than the effort to exercise faith in each separate promise that comes to our attention. That is the cultivation of a trustful attitude toward God – the habit of always thinking of Him, of His ways and of His works, with bright, confident hopefulness. In such promises alone, the individual promises take root and grow up.”
(as quoted on pages 18-19)

The author shares personal stories and experiences, providing Scriptures and guided prayers, to make application easy for every reader. The book is organized into twenty seven chapters by topic, a few of which are:

  • Comfort
  • Direction
  • Healing
  • Hope
  • Relationships
  • Purpose
  • Strength
  • Success
  • Troubles

Throughout the book,  the author also presents the various names of God, in a section entitled – “Name above All Names” and explains:

” … when you understand that a loving and powerful God is making you a promise, you can more easily find the faith to believe he wants to move on your behalf.” (page 18)

This is a book easy to use and reach for when dealing with a challenging situation in your life and unsure how to pray. The book is a rich treasury of God’s promises to His people and offers hope and encouragement on every page.
