It was a good week to jump into the study “Faithful Household of God“. We’re ever growing and hopefully, transforming, into the people God would have us to be.

In 1 Timothy 1:1-7, we find Paul addressing the topic of false teaching. He was especially concerned with the impact these false teachers would have on those listening:

  • They lead people away from the truth
  • Instead of producing love, purity, a good conscience and a sincere faith, they cause friction and division.

We want to know and grow in truth, guarding what we have been taught. The study states:

“Stewardship is guarding and using well that which we have been given, in obedience to the will and to the glory of God.” (Jennifer Hong, page 17)

False teaching continues to circulate in our day and we want to be a people who cling tightly to the truth found in Scripture. May we be good stewards of the faith!

Paul reminded Timothy of three important truths as found in 1 Timothy 1:12-20:

  1. Christ will give us the strength to do His work, what He calls us to do even today.
  2. Christ considers us trustworthy.
  3. Christ appoints us to serve Him.

Paul shares with Timothy his personal past, in which he tells of the horrible deeds he had done against Christ and His people. In so doing, Paul reminds us of the mercy, grace, and love God has extended not only to Paul, but to each one of us.

We are not our pasts. This should give us the assurance in these difficult days that:

“If you are God’s servant, called by the Spirit, obeying His will, then you can “Stay with it” and finish the work. These assurances enabled Timothy to “fight well in the Lord’s battles” (verse 18).

(Wiersbe Study Bible)

“Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they help you fight well in the Lord’s battles. Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear.” (verse 18-19, NLT)

May we “cling to our faith” for it is the way we will fight the battles of life.

Paul encouraged Timothy in the faith. Today may be a good day to think of someone who needs to be encouraged.

We closed the week with reading 1 Timothy 2:8-15.

Whether men or women, we are not to draw honor or glory or attention to ourselves. Rather, our lives are to point others to Christ. His Name above any other name.

As we steward well that which we’ve been given,
clinging and fighting for the faith,
we will worship Him with holy hands.
