The journey with my One Word 2021 continues to be an interesting one. The word showed up this week in a most unexpected way, shedding more light and depth of meaning.

“Iniquities prevail against me; As for our transgressions, You forgive them. How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You to dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.” (Psalm 65:3-4, NASB)

There’s my word – prevail -  this time bringing a different slant.

My sin (our sin) will prevail against me. Sin will keep coming at us in an attempt to overwhelm us, and load us down with a burden to heavy for us to carry.

But when sin prevails against us,
His grace prevails even greater!

And their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin.” (Hebrews 10:17-18, NASB)

The superior sacrifice of Christ Jesus is the perfect and complete sacrifice. “Once for all.” Completely forgiven and covered by the blood of Jesus and the grace of God.

These words from Oswald Chambers have become lodged in my thoughts:

“Forgiveness doesn’t merely mean that I am saved from hell and have been made ready for heaven … The miracle of redemption is that God turns me, the unholy one, into the standard of Himself, the Holy One. He does this by putting into me a new nature, the nature of Jesus Christ.”

(from My Utmost For His Highest by Oswald Chambers, November 19)

Our God prevails each day in our lives,
turning we, the unholy ones,
into the standard of Himself, the Holy One.
