Every Friday I join a community of bloggers for Five Minute Friday. One word prompt, five minutes. Unedited. The prompt this week is … Run.
Run – I would define the word as to move faster than walking; to move quickly.
A runner I am not but we do run at various times in life …
We would run from someone, or an animal, attempting to bring harm. We run from anything dangerous like a fire.
We also run to help a loved one or a friend in need. We run to the hospital in the wee hours of the night, or as the sun was just coming up.
We run to catch a bus or a train to get to work or school on time. We run to all sorts of appointments. We run to the bank so as to pay bills on time.
We run from and we run to, and typing those very words brings this verse to mind:
“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous runs into it and is safe.” (Proverbs 18:10, NASB)
The verse reminds me of quotes scribbled down in moments on needed encouragement:
“When you run alone, it is called a race. And when God runs with you, it’s called grace! (source unknown)
“God is a place of safety you can run to, but it helps if you are running to Him on a daily basis so that you are in familiar territory.”
(Stormie Omartian)
The Lord is our place of safety.
He is the One we can run to
in any situation,
in any place,
at any time.

Today I may be joining …
This is not churchy subterfuge,
for I truly care.
The Lord’s house is a refuge;
I hope I see you there.
Sure, the preacher rambles,
and the elders growl.
The kitchen is a shambles,
but don’t throw it the towel,
for the heart of Christ beats here
(can you hear the sound?),
and if you will just come near,
I think you’ll find you’ve found
a safe and gentle resting place
of kindly and imperfect grace.
So true, Andrew!
I’m so thankful He is our strong tower Who we can run to and be safe. What a neat quote about race and grace, thanks for sharing, Joanne.
What a great quote from Stormie Omartian. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! 🙂
A reminder to run to God instead of away from Him. I love the picture of God running with us–that truly is Grace. Blessings!
Joanne I love thinking of running to God, too often I think I dawdle along the way and then think I can handle whatever it is I face. When in reality the sooner I get to Him the sooner I am truly safe!
Joanne Love the thought of running to God for security as opposed to running from something.
