Hebrews 11 is a familiar chapter to so many. Often called the “Faith Chapter” or “The Hall of Faith”, it is in this chapter we find the list of impressive heroes of the faith. It is here we find stories of men and women whose heroic faith and courage encourages us as we face our own challenges in life.

The last few days I have spent time delving into “Little Faith, Big God” by Debbie W.Wilson. It’s an eight week Bible Study on the book of Hebrews sure to encourage any who pick it up.

We need fresh reminders of what it means to live by faith as it does not mean we will live this life perfectly. The author brings this insight:

“Where I see flaws, God saw magnificent faith. These imperfect men and women pleased God. That challenges and encourages me. Challenges, because we don’t get a pass because we’re flawed. Encourages, because God uses inadequate people.”

This realization should fill us all with hope that while we are a flawed people, we keep progressing in this journey of faith. We get up when we fall and by God’s help, we will finish and fulfill His purposes in our lives.

Each week includes five days of study focusing on a portion of Hebrews 11. Each day includes questions for study and reflection, a closing prayer, and a section to record what you want to remember.

From the first few days, I was encouraged by these thoughts:

  • “Living in regret doesn’t move us forward. But if we surrender our flaws and flops to God, he will use them for his glory and our good.”
  • “Little faith in a big God blossoms into courage to sustain us through every trial and setback.”
  • “People of faith keep an eternal perspective.”
  • “I know God’s ways are perfect. But sometimes they don’t look that way.”
  • “If we focus on the size of our faith, we’re in danger of becoming either paralyzed by our inadequacy or proud and self-reliant. We aren’t big enough for life’s challenges.”
  • “What we do in life echoes in eternity.”

We need to grow in faith as faith also fills us with hope:

“Our hope rests in a loving God. Even though we can’t see his invisible hand or understand his plan, like the wind, his goodness is evident to those with eyes of faith.”

This is a wonderful study for both individual or group study. Watch the trailer and decide for yourself.
